SAP and Infolog are the two leading players in the Benelux demand planning applications market
In its Demand Planning Report 2007, Capgemini throws light on an increased acceptance of demand planning processes in supply chain management
Publicatiedatum 4 December 2007
There is a growing awareness of the essential contribution of demand planning processes to overall supply chain performance. With this awareness comes a general acceptance of professional demand planning applications to support these processes. Based on Capgemini research among 14 software vendors in the Benelux, the Demand Planning Report 2007 offers an extensive analysis of the functionality and market positions of software solutions that are available for demand planning and forecasting. In addition, the report provides insight in the most significant developments and trends in the demand planning area.
More focus on Sales and Operations Planning
The most important development in the planning area is the integration of demand
planning with supply planning. Across all industries, companies are striving for
mature Sales & Operations planning processes. Software vendors are looking
to support this trend. Out of 14 participating vendors, 11 also offer Supply planning
functionality. Providing the integration of demand planning applications with
planning functionality for Sales and Operations Planning is high on the vendors’agendas.
Forecasting as a collaborative business process
Companies are making the transition from merely statistical forecasting to demand
planning; various departments and supply chain partners share information in formal
demand review sessions and responsibilities have been assigned for demand planning
activities. Vendors of demand planning tools have facilitated this transition
and offer more system support for collaborative forecasting like workflow management
and multi-level forecasting.
Two dominant players in the Benelux
SAP and Infolog are the two leading players in the Benelux demand planning applications
market: SAP as a worldwide vendor with the majority of its implementations in
large organisations and Infolog as a regional vendor with the majority of its
implementations in medium-sized organisations. Together these two vendors represent
65% of all recent implementations.
Industry focus
Consumer Products and Food & Beverages industries together account for almost
50% of all current demand planning implementations in the Benelux and remain an
important focus for demand planning vendors: almost all vendors indicate that
they target these industries. Companies in Automotive, High Tech, Pharma, Chemicals
and Retail are targeted by between 40 and 50% of the vendors. Other industries
have an even more limited choice of demand planning applications.
