Logistics: Multimodal Cargo Handling

Opening the new Container Terminal Altenwerder (CTA) has enabled Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) to considerably extend its handling capacity at the port of Hamburg.

Every fifth container in Europe is now handled on HHLA premises – in 2006 this amounted to over six million standard containers. The heart of HHLA Container Terminal Altenwerder is its Container Basis System (CBS), developed in conjunction with sd&m.

This central administration application can manage various handling processes simultaneously for each container – indispensable for the short round-trip times in hinterland and an important contribution to the plant’s high efficiency rate. Its innovative cargo handling technology has made CTA the world’s top state-of-the-art container terminal.
